Buy my new book – ‘Bring Your Product Idea to Life’

As a product business owner, you wear many hats – from inspiration and product development to marketing and customer service. With so many responsibilities on your plate, it’s no wonder time can often feel like a scarce commodity. But what if there was a way to streamline your tasks, boost productivity, and gain a competitive edge? Enter the world of AI (Artificial Intelligence). While AI may sound futuristic and intimidating, it’s a powerful tool that can revolutionize the way you run your product business.

Jenny of Jennifer Cooper Timesaver was a recent guest on my podcast. Jenny is passionate about empowering business owners to be savvy with tech so that they can get more done in their business. Jenny shared some brilliant examples of how you can use AI in your business to save valuable time.

The Most Common Mistake With AI

The most common mistake that people make with AI is they ask it to do something with no context – like write me a blog about baby weaning products, get poor results and then dismiss it.

Instead think of AI as your intern or work experience. You wouldn’t give them a task like this without context. You would explain:

  • Something about the business that they are writing for
  • Who the audience is
  • What the goal of the writing is, what action you want the reader to take
  • The tone of voice
  • The format – for instance word count

You need to do the same for AI and you will get much better results. Remember you can refine what you are given – you can ask for it to be longer, shorter, have some action points etc.

The Most Common Misconception With AI

Similarly the common misconception with AI is that it is totally going to replace us. AI can not create as good content as you. I would never recommend that you use AI to write fresh copy.

Instead it is an incredibly powerful tool that you can use to rewrite, enhance and refine your own copy.

The input needs to be from a human. And similarly when using copy, I would never recommend using what AI generates without tweaking, softening and checking it. There will be nuances of your own voice that you will need to add.

What it can do is help your repurpose content you have already created and blast past the block of a blank page, by generating suggestions that will spark an idea.

So how do you use AI as a Product Business Owner?

Here are a few practical suggestions to get you started.

  1. Brainstorming and Content Creation

One of the biggest challenges for product business owners is generating fresh ideas for content, whether it’s for social media posts, blog articles, or email campaigns. AI can be a game-changer in this regard. By providing detailed prompts and context about your business, target audience, and goals, AI tools like ChatGPT and Claude can suggest a wealth of ideas tailored to your specific needs. Instead of staring at a blank page, you’ll have a starting point to spark your creativity and build upon.

  1. Content Repurposing and Optimisation

As a product business owner, you likely create a lot of content in various formats, such as podcasts, social media posts, and videos. AI can help you maximize the value of this content by repurposing it into other formats. For example, you can use AI tools like CastMagic to transcribe podcasts and turn them into blog posts or social media snippets. This saves you time and ensures your content reaches a wider audience across multiple platforms.

  1. Email Marketing and Customer Communication

Effective email marketing and customer communication are crucial for building relationships and driving sales in a product business. AI can assist you in crafting compelling emails, from suggesting enticing subject lines to generating ideas for the main content. By providing AI tools with details about your product, target audience, and messaging goals, you can generate personalized and engaging email content that resonates with your customers.

  1. Marketing and SEO Optimization

AI can be a powerful ally in optimising your marketing efforts and improving your website’s search engine rankings. By analysing your existing content and competitor data, AI tools can suggest relevant keywords, meta descriptions, tags and optimisation techniques to improve your visibility in search results.

  1. Task Automation and Prioritisation

As a busy product business owner, staying organized and prioritizing tasks can be a constant challenge. AI can help you streamline your workflow by automating repetitive tasks and prioritizing your to-do list. For example, you can use AI tools to transcribe meeting notes, generate task lists, and prioritise actions based on your business objectives. Goblin Tools is brilliant at helping you generate a prioritisied list of tasks from a brain dump, or breaking overwhelming projects into smaller tasks.

Rather than being a tool to replace us, AI is a superpower we can use to enhance our productivity and creativity. And it is available to all of us. At the time of writing, most of the tools mentioned in this blog were available for free. You can access a free list of recommended AI tools here.

Time is our most precious commodity. AI can help you save time in the less enjoyable parts of your product business, so you can focus on what matters most to you.
